Success at the 2005 7-on-7

Posted Thursday, August 04, 2005 by Enrique Rosario Jr.
July 28,---The Yonkers High School football team is ready for the upcoming season and proved it in this summer's 7 -on- 7 event hosted by the Bulldogs at Saunders High School. It was a hot day for the players but they were pumped to finally get on the field and compete against one another. Joining the Bulldogs were football teams from Saunders High School and Sacred Heart High School. All of the players were wearing their school colors ready to represent their school in the competition. The player's had been waiting all summer for the 7 -on- 7 event so this was truly the highlight of the summer for them.

The 7 -on- 7 event is a competition in which the teams get a chance to showcase their skills before the football season starts and coaches get an idea of what they need to work on before the season actually begins in the fall.

The 7 -on- 7 event consisted of activities such as the 7 -on- 7 game between the schools, defensive drills, tug-of-war, and a sprinting contest. Offensively and defensively the Bulldogs looked good and their performance at the competition proved it. The Bulldogs came out on top at the offensive line tug-a-war defeating Saunders in what looked like a fight for each team's life. They also surpassed Sacred Heart and Saunders at the 7 -on- 7, scoring more and taking advantage of the other team's mistakes. The Bulldog's exceeded expectations in all of the events showing that all of their hard work is paying off. The senior quarterback of the Bulldogs, Joseph Nshiewat did a fantastic job as he completed 19 of 30 passes. Also first year player, John-John Msonthi did well making his debut at the competition.

Fans of all three high schools came to the event to watch and support the players. The fans included teachers, students, and family members who came to cheer on their favorite team. The event was sponsored and catered by the Outback Steak House and because of their generosity all the players and coaching staff were fed after a long day of playing football. The Outback staff had a barbeque set up where they served hamburgers, grilled chicken, and their delicious ribs.

The Bulldogs still have all of August until their season begins but the team has been practicing since the spring to prepare them for their season. Last year the team won their first two games in quite a while boosting their morale and making this season even more enticing than the last. This year the Bulldogs have unity, strength, and determination. The team is built upon their seniors so they want their last year to be the best it can be.

We are all looking forward to the Bulldog's 2006 football season, it should be a great one!
